I’m Grant Burger, a cabinetmaker, wood fabricator, and tinkerer based in the East Bay of San Francisco.

My experience as a builder-of-things is unique and varied, and allows an approach to projects that may not always be apparent to others in my field.

As a graduate of, and former instructor at, the prestigious North Bennet Street School in Boston, MA, with a focus on Cabinet and Furniture Making, I’m trained in the ways of fine woodworking, both old and new.  From hand cut joinery, turning, and carving, to modern built in cabinetry, I’ve done it all.  Through that experience, I know when and how to employ the best techniques, and what makes the most sense, and when.

Previous to that, I earned a degree in Construction Technology from Triangle Tech in Pittsburgh, PA, where I studied everything from foundation to ridge cap, and everything in between.  My years spent working as a residential carpenter in Pittsburgh has given me the insight to know how my work will interface with related trades, be it plumbing and electrical, or the framing and sheetrock that make up the walls.  These things matter when you’re planning and executing a complex project.  

Building cabinetry and furniture to the highest standards is my life’s work, however I’m passionate about design and manufacture of nearly everything.  I believe that form should always follow function, but function can be beautiful all on its own.

When I’m not in the shop, I usually can be found fishing the Pacific coast on my custom Livingston catamaran “Carmelita”, or reading at home on the couch with my senior cat, Nick.
